Terminally Ill Comedian Quincy Jones' HBO Special Gets Official Premiere Date

Less than a month after Ellen DeGeneres convinced HBO to air a special for aspiring comedian Quincy Jones, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer last year, a date has been set for Jones' small screen debut: June 2.

Jones, 32, was diagnosed with stage 4 mesothelioma cancer in July and told he has one year to live. His pal Nicole Blaine started a Kickstarter campaign to help him realize his dream of starring in a standup special. The campaign which soon went viral and raised over $50,000, catching the attention of DeGeneres.

The host then invited Jones to appear on her show, and a week later brought him back onto surprise him with the news that HBO had agreed to air the hour-long special.

Jones filmed the hour April 4 at Los Angeles' Teragram Ballroom.

Quincy Jones: Burning the Light premieres June 2 at 10 p.m. ET on HBO.
